On Monday, Dec 11, 2006 the Mona Shores Karate Club tested Mr. Shawn Pike for his Shodan. He preformed well in front of an experienced board of his instructors. And despite severely injuring his ankle Mr. Pike passed all requirements for his 1st degree black belt. We as a club are all very proud of his accomplishment and welcome him to the group of instructors from our club.

A small update on our new black belt Mr. Pike, he was presented his belt last night in front of all his classmates. And keeping with tradition he fought every person that was of eligible rank and time in the class, which amounted to about seven people. And since we had extra time we went through the group twice so he got to fight 14 3-point matches one after another, without a break. By the end of the night we all agreed it was some of the most fun we have had in class in a while, and we are talking of doing it again the last Wednesday before the Christmas holiday. We all look forward to seeing Mr. Pike grow as an instructor and a new black belt in the next year.

Shawn did a very good job on his test. It was obvious that he had injured his ankle and he was in a good deal of pain. He would not quit and he continued his test to it's completion. A tough lesson but a valuable one, in the street you don't stop even if you get hurt. I want to welcome Shawn to our group of Black Belt Instructors.

I attend the Mona Shores Karate Club as well, and know that he worked incredibly hard for this belt. I also know that though he was working extremely hard, he took the time to help other members with whatever they needed help with, whether it was weapons or Tiger 2. Recently he spent 10-15 minutes with me after a class helping me with my sparring technique. He is also very kind to everyone, regardless of age, rank, gender, or whatever. I just want to say congradulations, Mr. Pike. You've definately earned it.
