As of the last Punchline insert, my brother, Ruben Almanza, and myself have competed in several tournaments held throughout the Rio Grande Valley. It culminated in a Tournament of Champions held last month. People who had placed in any of the qualifying tournaments were invited to compete.
I'm glad to say that the AKS was well represented. I placed 1st in Men's Black Belt Forms. I performed Cat Form 2. I also placed 3rd in sparring in heavyweight division. It's also known as the"healthy-weight" division.
The thing that sticks out the most is that the AKS has once again shown that it's a quality, not quantity, style. We may not have schools throughtout, but it's presence has definitely been noticed. Last time that happened, Mr. Mike Sullenger was competing here in the 1970's.
I would like to think that Mr. Sullenger has definitely grown a good lineage. I think that is one of the best things an instructor can have to show down the road.
I'll let you all know when tournament season starts up again. This time I'll probably compete in middleweight division. Wish me luck!!!!

Roy
Congratulations on your tournament success. After working with you and watching your progress, I am sure you represented the AKS very well.
