The first annual regional training seminar was held in Clarksburg, West Virginia the weekend before Thanksgiving. The WV gang did a great job in procuring training sites and advertising the various events. On Friend evening (Nov. 16th) a women's self defense class was conducted by Assistant Chief Instructor Dave Thomas, ablely assisted by Assistant Chief Instructor Fred Reinecke, Mr. Tom Twining and your humble correspondant. Approximately 20 women participated and all attendees were please with the evenings event.
The next morning a seminar was held for kids with over 20 attendees. Each of took turns teaching a segment. The morning's activities provided all participants the opportunity to learn something new and add to their martial arts knowledge.
During the Saturday afternoon session some 20 AKS members participated in fine tuning their AKS katas, learning some self-defense and training with weapons.
On Sunday Mr. Rienecke and Mr. Twining engaged a number of our WV members in sparring. In addition to developing a good sweat new tactics and skills were picked up by those in attendance. From what I heard both Mr. Reinecke and Mr. Twining demonstrated you should never underestimate someone just because they have a few more years than you do. (-
I want to thank Mr. Folsom, Mr. Gore, Mr. Sprouse, and Mr. Greynolds for their hospitality and for their efforts in having a successful and memerable seminar. I'm looking forward to next years. It was a great opportunity for the senior leadership to spend time with members who are unable to attend the summer camp, as well as to train once again with those who do attend.
